Now, let’s be honest, it’s too good to miss while sleeping. So, check out our guide to London at night, and start making plans here and now…
London style nightclubs
What’s your idea of a great club? Techno? Vibrant live music? A packed dance floor? It doesn’t really matter, because London’s clubs will give you all of this and more. Below you’ll find some of the best clubs to visit while you’re in London.
Fabric
Fabric is a nightclub known from Berlin to Mumbai. It has three rooms that offer you a mix of techno, electro and disco music. Show off your dance moves on the dance floor, bodysonic, drink and groove to the beat of a visiting DJ and soak up the adrenaline-pumping atmosphere that only central London can give you.
Heaven
The legendary Heaven can seat over a thousand people. Located in Charing Cross, which may not seem glamorous, but this three-storey venue attracts people from all over the world and is among the most famous spots on London’s nightclub scene. Mondays have a Popcorn theme and the famous GAY theme on Saturdays.
Cargo
Under the arches that support the railway, we find Cargo. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere with many people drawn to the diversity of music on offer. Make sure you have energy for a party until the early hours by refuelling with their food including pizza, plates and burgers.
Ministry Of Sound
Ministry of Sound shows you how to be popular for over 25 years in a row. Four bars, four dance floors, five rooms and a recording studio are proof that this place has stood the test of time. Famous people sometimes appear here, such as Paul Oakfield, meaning you should book your ticket in advance and get there early to avoid the queues.
The Home of the Pub (And The Bar)
It’s not entirely clear whether the British invented the pub concept, but the pubs and bars in the city centre prove that this city has perfected the idea. A night out on the streets of London means variety and there’s a place for everyone. From sitting by the river to a party at a rooftop bar, to a posh cocktail bar to watching a football match in a traditional pub or a sports bar. No matter what type you’re looking for, London has it.
The Spaniards Inn
This place is for those who like to step into the world of books. The Spaniards Inn is mentioned in Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Situated in Hampstead, come here to sit on the terrace with a beer on a spring or summer evening, or come during the winter to enjoy the antique stove.
Bounce
Beer and table tennis is such a great combination, we wonder why it took so long to think of combining the two. Bounce has two locations, one in Farringdon, and one on Old Street. They offer a range of cocktails, food and table tennis that attracts a huge crowd.
Bar Kick
If you love football, then Bar Kick is where you need to be. The matches are shown live on the screens and they also have table football that you can use while you eat their delicious food and enjoy a cocktail. If you’re lucky, they’ll be hosting one of their events in the basement while you’re here.
The Rooftop
Looking for a quiet bar with fantastic views? Then head to the Rooftop Bar on the corner of Trafalgar St James Hotel, where the only thing better than panoramic views are the cocktails.
All the fun for a low budget price
Let’s face it, a lot of bars in London are expensive. The good news is, not all of them. There may not be a free lunch, but there are some cheap night spots to choose from.
Stand up comedy, free entry (or almost)
Is there anything better than a good laugh? This doesn’t have to come at a cost. Venues such as Camden Head and The Bill Murray host Free Comedy Showcases, while Top Secret Comedy Club (which is anything but “top secret” these days) has free or £1 entry most nights. Come here and you might just see a future comedy legend on the scene.
1 Big Night Out London
London Big Night Out is the longest running bar crawl in the city, and has been running since 2009. It can hold up to 300 people, and you can book your ticket at London Backpackers. It’s not just a night out on the streets of London, it’ll be cheaper with discounted drinks, free shots and no queues.
West End shows at a cheaper price
Catch a show in the West End. West End shows are some of the best in the world, but tickets can be very expensive. In Leicester Square there is the TKS booth, which has discounted tickets to most shows, especially if you buy tickets for the day of the performance.
Try the gastronomy of the streets of London
On almost every corner in London you will find a high quality restaurant. If you are looking for cheap food at the same quality, then you have to go to a street food stall to try delicious food from all over the world. Street Feast has a wide range of food places such as the Model Market in Lewisham and Dinerama in Shoreditch while the traders in Flat Iron Square offer delicious food to take away and try.
Join a night walking tour
One of the best ways to explore London is on foot. Few things will get you closer to the streets than being on them, and a guided night tour brings the added thrills and chills. Experience the thrills and scares of the Jack The Ripper Tour for £10.00 or Sandemans New London Grim Reaper Tour for £14.00.
Spend the night in a budget accommodation
Accommodation is often the most expensive part of a trip, but in London, it doesn’t have to be. Book an overnight stay with London Backpackers and you can enjoy a clean, safe room and facilities for a budget price, leaving you with plenty of money to spend on the streets during your night out. As well as a comfortable bed in a private or shared room, we also have WiFi, a kitchen, a washer and dryer, a games room and everything else you need to enjoy this city.
Drinks in cheap bars in London
If you and your friends want to say hello but don’t want to spend your entire budget, then head to Ridley Road Market in Dalston or Frank’s Café for cheap drinks and a spectacular view of South London.
Night events
It’s Friday night… Let the party begin!
Night openings of the museum
London’s museums are some of the best in the world. During the day they can be packed with tourists and school parties, but at night a whole new world of culture, history and art opens up. Many of the best host events such as lectures, performances, workshops, DJ sets and drinks receptions – surprisingly, like entry to the museums, many of these are free. Try the Camden Arts Centre, the British Museum and the National Gallery for starters, and then start exploring.
Soak up the views from the Sky Garden
How do you get a great view of London? You pay to go to the top of the Shard, right? No. Reserve a free spot at London’s Sky Garden on Fenchurch Street.
Art Night
Art night is an arts festival with a difference – it takes place entirely after dark. Following a trail through London, you’ll be able to follow and see a free, one-night programme of performance, contemporary art, music and architecture, running from early evening until the first light of dawn.
The illuminated river
The River Thames is an iconic river and looks even more spectacular when it lights up at night. The illuminated river demonstrates in spectacular style by transforming 15 bridges into a stunning work of art across the river. Take a trip on a guided Thames Clipper Illuminated River Boat Tour to learn about each of the bridges as you pass beneath them.
